Seven persons have been taken into custody by forest officials in connection with poaching of elephants in Kerala forests.

Official sources said today that two elephant tusks and idols made out of ivory were recovered from them.

These idols were reportedly meant for smuggling out of China, Nepal and Dubai.

The state government has appointed a team to probe the case relating to poaching of elephants in Vaazhachal and Athirapally regions.

Forest officials had recently nabbed another person, identified as Chakka Ravi, who is allegedly one of the key dealers of ivory taken from elephants hunted down by poachers in Kerala.
