Six suspected poachers were arrested in Kwale county last week.

KWS officers on Thursday night arrested four suspected poachers at Mkongani during a joint police operation in their homes.

They were found with five arrows, three bows, poison used to hunt down elephants, crane wires used to trap elephants, five rolls of small wires used for trapping small wild animals, five pangas and two axes.

Two other suspects were arrested on Friday at Kilimandogo, Kinango, with two old ivory weighing 10kg worth around Sh700,000.

“We used intelligence information that there were people looking for market to sell their ivory. We posed as buyers and agreed where to meet before we got them,” said Shimba Hills National Reserve deputy warden Dadley Tsiganyiu in his office yesterday.
