Bukoba — ABOUT 300 households in Omubweya village in Kibirizi Ward of Bukoba Rural District face acute shortage of water forcing them to trek a distance of seven kilometres to Izimbya Ward.
Mr Abubakar Omary (32) and Mr Christopher Rugemalila (56) said for a long time the people depended on shallow wells to draw water for their daily needs, but most of the wells have since dried up.
“We appeal to Bukoba District Council to intervene and construct a borehole to enable people get access to clean and safe water,” said Mr Omary.
The villagers also raised concern over frequent invasion of stray elephants which destroyed over 50 hectares of various crops at Omubweya, Mishasha and Rwobutagasi villages.
Meanwhile, Kagera Regional Commissioner (RC), Mr John Mongela yesterday morning swore in Mr Fadhili Nkurlu the new District Commissioner for Misenyi District, taking over from Col (rtd) Issa Njiku who has been shifted to Mlele District.
Other District Commissioners include Francis Mtinga (Muleba), Jackson Musome (Bukoba), Elias Tarimo (Biharamulo), Darry Rwegasira (Karagwe), Lt Col (rtd) Benedict Kitenga (Kyerwa), and Constantine Kanyasu (Ngara).
