Banga — A herd of elephants is destroying crops and causing panic among the population of Aldeia Nova commune in the northern Cuanza Norte province.

Speaking to Angop on Tuesday, the communal administrator of the Aldeia Nova, José Manuel Paulo, in addition to the destruction of farms, elephants are also approaching the houses, causing panic to the population.

He pointed out the crops of cassava, bananas and beans as the most targeted.

The official stressed that the persistence of this situation may cause hunger to the inhabitants of the region in the near future.

He said that elephants appear more often in the most remote wards of the communal headquarters, as Caboco, Bessenguele and Quimazundo.
