Excited elephants everywhere!

Driving along as usual, on the lookout for elephants one afternoon, we heard a lot of excited trumpeting not far from where we were. Heading to the source of the noise, we came across numerous pairs of juvenile and sub-adult males play-fighting (with some pairs fighting more than playing). Simultaneously, other young elephants were walking through big bushes roughly, trumpeting loudly, then running for a few metres, turning around and doing it all over again! Of course the calves had to get in on the fun and they too were getting all excited and running around on their cute little legs!

One young female elephant decided our vehicle absolutely had to become an accessory in all this excitement and she kept coming close to the car, tossing her head and trumpeting dramatically before running away, only to return a minute later to put on another show for us! This pandemonium continued for many minutes and then suddenly, it all died down. The elephants returned to the older family members and began grazing, as if that’s what they had been doing all along! It was an awesome experience seeing the eles so active and excited! Unfortunately photos couldn’t do justice in capturing the completely chaotic activity and non-stop movement (and so I took videos of course!), therefore I can’t show you much visual evidence.
