18-year-old killed in tusker attack (Nepal)

An 18-year-old local was killed by a wild elephant in Babai
Municipality-3 of Bardiya district on Tuesday night.

Police have identified the victim as Arjun Nepali. According to
Superintendent of Police Bharat Bahadur Bohara, Arjun came under the
attack while trying to chase away the elephant with other villagers.
The elephant  had entered the human settlement from the Bardiya
National Park.

Local people obstructed the East-West Highway at Karmana, demanding
immediate measure to control the wild beasts. They have demanded
compensation and employments to one member of each bereaved family.

The agitating locals say the authorities have failed to take
initiatives to control the wild beasts despite their repeated
requests.

Wild elephants have been wreaking havoc in Karmana area since long.
Six persons have died in the buffer zone area of the national park in
the district in the past one year.
