A four month old elephant calf, which was rescued from a pit inside the forest, is now recovering under the good care of forest department officials.

The calf had fallen to a pit in the forest, five kilometres away from Thottappally which comes under Edavanna Forest Range.

The calf is under the treatment of Abdul Fatah, veterinary doctor of Thekkady Tiger Reserve. Once he is fit enough to travel, he will be shifted to one of the four elephant centres in the state.

Though visitors are pouring in to get a glimpse of the baby elephant, the Forest Department has placed some restrictions considering his health.

The calf fell into the pit while playing with her mother elephant in the forest.
