Carcass of elephant calf recovered (India, Odisha)

Forest department officials today recovered a carcass of an elephant calf from Ganesh Khol forested area under Sarangi range in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district.

Two persons have been injured by the mother of the dead calf.

The injured are the local forester Sagramani and a photographer.

The two were injured when they were attacked by the mother elephant that was guarding her dead calf.

Though reason behind the death of the two-month old calf is not yet clear, the local DFO has stated that the cause of the death will be ascertained after the post-mortem is done.
