The early warning system implemented by the forest department to reduce man-animal conflict along the fringes of Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary (WWS) would be launched on Monday.

Under the project, information on elephant locations would be provided by community members and electronic display boards would be activated by a centralized system which would also send bulk messages alerting residents about the straying animals.

It would be implemented in four conflict hotspots around the WWS.

Warden of WWS P Dhanesh Kumar said elephant information groups have been constituted by roping in local public and forest watchers and members of the elephant squad who would pass on information of the straying animals to the centralized alert centre from where SMS messages and voice calls would be sent to people in the locality.
