SRIKAKULAM: Yet again a herd of elephants wreaked havoc on the outskirts of Jambada village of LN Peta mandal in Srikakulam agency Friday morning.
According to locals, a herd of four jumbos which were in the forest area near Ondrujola in Setampeta mandal reached outskirts of Jambada village Friday morning. The agricultural fields of L Jammayya, P Chinnayya, P Mallesu and N Krishna Murty were ravaged by the elephants. The villagers of LN Peta mandal have been arranging fire on the outskirts to prevent entry of elephants into the villages at night. The villagers were angry with the Forest and ITDA officials for being negligent in taking measures to stop elephants from entering villages. Forest officer Ramalingeswara Rao and his team reached the area and conducted survey over the damaged agricultural fields. According to him, the elephants might have been taking shelter in the forest area near Irupurayapadu village of the same mandal.
