In another incident of man-elephant conflict, an old woman was trampled to death and houses of at least five families were destroyed by a jumbo herd in Guguramunda village near Lulukidhihi jungle under Sundargarh Sadar forest range late on Saturday night.
According to information, a herd of about 15 elephants entered the Gugurmunda village and wreaked havoc. The old woman, who was sleeping in a thatched house, was trampled by one of the jumbos.
Villagers of Gugurmunda and other nearby villages are still in a state of panic as the elephants are still roaming in the nearby jungle.
Forest officials have reached the spot and are trying to drive away the jumbos to a distant jungle, sources said.
