Kenya: Elephant Tramples Man to Death in Kulamawe, Isiolo

An elephant Thursday trampled an 18-year-old man to death in Kulamawe, Isiolo County.

Guyo Hussein Gollo who sat his Kenya Certificate of Secondary School (KCSE) exam in 2015 and was expecting his results later February.

A resident, Mr Hassan Hussein, said the animal from Shaba National Reserve invaded a village at 10am before trampling the deceased.

The animal, which also destroyed crops, is said to have turned violent after angry residents tried to chase it away.

A number of people have in the past been killed by elephants roaming from the nearby reserve.

County Senior Warden Michael Gichure said the man was unaware of the danger posed by the elephants as he went near it before the tragedy happened.

Mr Gichure said his officers had been sent to make follow-ups on the matter before compensation is made.

The deceased was buried the same day in line with Islamic rites.
