POLICE in Kajiado town yesterday intercepted 13 kilograms of elephant tusks with an estimated street value of Sh1.3 million. Three suspects were arrested with the eight pieces of ivory outside a hotel in Kajiado town.

County commissioner Albert Kobia said police received information from members of the public and impounded a car used by the suspects. He said some residents followed the suspects throughout Thursday night before informing the police of the suspects’ whereabout.

Kobia said he is working with police chiefs in the region to ensure no counterfeit goods enter the country through the Kenya-Tanzania borders. He said police have installed roadblocks on the Athi River-Namanga and Emali-Loitokitok highways to check on criminals.

Last week four Somali nationals were intercepted at Isinya town on their way to Nairobi. Police impounded 10 mobile phones from the suspects.
