This week on NPR Specials:  America Abroad takes an in-depth look at one critical issue in international affairs and U.S. foreign policy. The illicit wildlife trade is now worth up to 20 billion dollars a year. That’s double what it was just a few years ago.

This has attracted the attention of Al Shabaab, Boko Haram, the Lord’s Resistance Army, and other terrorist groups — all looking to capitalize on this high-value, low-risk venture. And it poses a challenge to US officials and law enforcement.  In this hour-long program, we look at poaching — once a conservation issue, but now considered a genuine threat to national security.

America Abroad: Poaching and Terrorism will air on NPR Berlin Saturday the 11th at 19:00 and Monday the 13th at 08:00.
