Opposition Congress members on Thursday raised the issue of
compensation provided by the Chhattisgarh Government to victims of
elephant attacks in the State.
During the question hour, Congress member Amarjeet Bhagat stated that
the State government had not been providing any compensation to the
victims of elephant attacks.
To this, Forest Minister Mahesh Gagda said that compensation is being
provided to the victims on very first information of such an attack
taking place.He said that the victims are provided Rs 10,000 upfront
as compensation after the Department receives the information of
elephants attacking them.
‘8053.297 Ha forest land diverted for mining’
Raipur: Forest Minister Mahesh Gagda informed Chhattisgarh Assembly on
Thursday that 8053.297 hectares of forest land had been diverted for
mining purposes between January 1, 2008 to January 31, 2017.In a
written reply to Leader of Opposition TS Singhdeo, the Minister
informed that 686.848 hectares of forest land had been diverted for
industrialisation and 4806.951 hectares for development projects
totalling 13,547.096 hectares.
‘Medicinal plant saplings planted in 40 Ha of land’
Raipur :Forest Minister Mahesh Gagda informed Chhattisgarh Assembly on
Thursday that plantations had been carried out in 10 km length and
medicinal plant saplings had been planted in 40 hectares of land in
Jagdalpur Assembly segment between 2012-13 to 2015-16.In a written
reply to BJP member Santosh Bafna, the Minister informed that no
nurseries were created during the aforesaid period.
He said that a total of 18,90,406 saplings were planted in the
Assembly segment out of which 13,07,883 have survived.
