Seaton Businessman in Court over Endangered Species Trade

Shane David Ball, 27, of Derwent Avenue, appeared at West Cumbria today for four offences relating to the control of trade in endangered species.

He has been charged with the prohibited offering for sale of elephant ivory.

The offence is alleged to have taken place at Workington between June 20 and July 16 last year. He was also charged with the prohibited keeping of that elephant ivory for sale. Mr Ball has also been charged with purchasing a leopard skin last February. And he has been charged with the prohibited sale of leopard skin on July 2 last year.

No pleas were entered during a court hearing yesterday. The case has been adjourned until July 18 at Carlisle Crown Court.
