Sick Elephant Calf Rescued from Odisha Forest Dies (India)

A sick elephant calf rescued from near Alusingha village under Hindol forest range in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district today died despite best efforts by Forest department officials and a team of veterinarians.

The elephant calf aged between four to five years had fallen into a water-filled ditch near Alusingha village under Khaliborei forest beat house limits.

The elephant calf was lifted from the ditch to a highland by Forest department officials and the team of veterinarians tried their best but could not save the sick elephant calf.

Villagers claimed that the elephant calf had fallen into the ditch probably due to illness and was unable to lift itself out and had informed the Forest department officials.

On being informed by the villagers, Forest department officials accompanied with veterinarians have rushed to the spot.
