In a statement on June 15 the Congolese Institute for the Conservation of Nature (ICCN), informed the public of cases of wandering elephants in parts of the country during this period.

ICCN reports that these were known seasonal movements in search of food. According to locals these elephants ravaged fields and fish ponds in several villages.

The case reopens the debate on the national parks management policy and protected areas across the country.
