Two more persons were arrested in connection with the elephant poaching case from here in an operation on Monday night. They were arrested from separate locations in an operation that lasted nearly two hours and concluded by 11 p.m. The direct link that the two arrested had with the illegal racket was established on the basis of the confessions of Agarwal and ‘Eagle’ Rajan. Meanwhile, it has been reliably learnt that a team of forest officials has gone to a particular location outside the State, after they received leads pertaining to the network of the ivory trade. The artisans who were roped in for preparing the handicrafts were also found to be based from the district.

They were arrested from separate locations in an operation that lasted nearly two hours and concluded by 11 p.m. According to an official, the accused are believed to be artisans who had made several idols and other artefacts of ivory at the behest of Umesh Agarwal, a kingpin in the trade who was apprehended in New Delhi recently. The direct link that the two arrested had with the illegal racket was established on the basis of the confessions of Agarwal and ‘Eagle’ Rajan. The investigating team is of the view that the preparation of the artefacts and carvings were largely coordinated from the capital city by ‘Eagle’ Rajan based on the requirements conveyed by Agarwal.
