Victims of tusker rampage get relief (Nepal)

BHADRAPUR: As many as 66 people victimised by elephant rampage in Jhapa district this year were provided with compensation of Rs 970,100.
 
According to the information received by the District Forest Office, the compensation was distributed based on the details of loss caused to the people by tuskers.
 
The loss details includes two people injured; damage incurred to the house and shed of seven and store house of one and loss caused to the farming of 13 among others.
 
Since couple of years, the wild tuskers have been entering into the human settlements in the eastern, northern and southern VDCs of Jhapa and causing suffering to the locals every year.
 
Despite the claim that compensation has been given to victims, Sitaram Bastola, a local of Budhabare VDC-8 of Jhapa complained he has not yet obtained any relief despite five months of the tusker rampage.
