A THIRTY-ONE-YEAR-OLD man of Chisamamamba Village of Chief Kakumbi’s area in Mambwe District has been trampled to death by an elephant.

Innocent Banda, an employee of Mfuwe Lodge, was trampled to death by an elephant at Yosefe Primary School, in the early hours of Tuesday, while on his way home.

Eastern Province commissioner of Police Eugene Sibote and Malambo Member of Parliament (mp) Jacob Shuma confirmed yesterday that Mr Banda met his fate while at an elephant corridor.

Mr sibote said the incident happened around 04:00 hours on Tuesday when the deceased was coming from a drinking spree.

“This incident happened on November 3 at 04:00 hours at Yosefe Village in Chief Kakumbi’s area. Actually, this man met his fate as he was coming from a drinking spree,” he said.

He warned people who were living in the game management area against moving at night or very early in the morning going by the nature of the area.

Mr Sibote said it was illogical for people who were living in the game management area to move at night as they risked being attacked by wildlife.
