At Save the Elephants, we’re always exploring innovative avenues to support our mission to secure a future for elephants and to offer ways to donate to our cause which match our supporters’ preferences. STE accepts cryptocurrency donations via our fiscal sponsor, the Wildlife Conservation Network (WCN).

When you make a crypto donation, you’ll be donating to our US fiscal sponsor, Wildlife Conservation Network (WCN), who utilise The Giving Block platform. WCN will pass on 100% of your donation, converted to US dollars, to STE.

IMPORTANT: to ensure that your donation reaches Save the Elephants, please remember to tick the ‘Add a note to your donation’ checkbox and include the message: “Donate 100% of my donation to Save the Elephants.”

If you are based in the US, you could even benefit from a tax deduction on your donation. Please read our FAQs section below. For any queries, please email [email protected].

We appreciate your support in helping us maintain transparency and due diligence. At this time, we are unable to accept anonymous donations. Kindly note that we do not offer refunds, so please ensure you double check your intended amount.

FAQs - donating to STE with cryptocurrency

How do I donate cryptocurrency?

Your cryptocurrency donations can be made through the widget above. Select the cryptocurrency you wish to donate and enter your donation amount.

Make sure to tick the ‘Add a note to your donation’ checkbox and include the message: “Donate 100% of my donation to Save the Elephants.”

Fill in your name and address, and enter an email address where you would like to receive a text receipt. Note, WCN does not accept anonymous donations at this time.

You will then see a wallet address for your donation for you to link to your wallet.

Can I claim a tax deduction on my crypto donation?

For our supporters based in the US, here’s an added incentive: contributions made through WCN may qualify for tax deductions. Cryptocurrencies are classified as property in the US, and your donation to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit such as WCN could be eligible for tax benefits. Consult with your tax advisor for more details.

Will I receive a confirmation or receipt for my crypto donation?

The Giving Block generates tax receipts for donors who opt to receive one. These donors will receive their tax acknowledgment receipts via email. Please note that it remains your responsibility to understand whether you are eligible to claim tax deductions in the US.

Why do I need to add a note to my donation?

Adding the note ensures that 100% of your contribution goes to Save the Elephants. It’s a crucial step in directing your support where it’s needed most.

What happens if I forget to add the donation note?

In the event of no note being added, please email [email protected] detailing your transaction and that you’d like the amount to be donated to Save the Elephants.

Can I make a cryptocurrency donation from outside the United States?

Yes. Although you will not be eligible for any tax deductions or benefits for doing so.

Is my personal information safe when making a cryptocurrency donation?

Yes. The Giving Block, which facilitates the cryptocurrency donation on behalf of the Wildlife Conservation Network (WCN), commits to taking your data privacy seriously. Please read The Giving Block’s Privacy Policy (external link) for further details.

Do I pay the transaction gas fees on top of my donation?

Yes. Gas fees are the transaction costs associated with processing and validating transactions on blockchain networks. You will need to make sure you have enough funds to cover the gas fees of your transaction.
