A dead elephant bull with its tusks removed was found in the Bwabwata National Park on Monday.
The carcass was found near Omega South in the park, the Kavango East Regional police crime investigations coordinator, deputy commissioner Willie Bampton told Nampa yesterday. Bampton said the police are not sure what weapon was used to kill the animal.
The deputy commissioner said the police in the Zambezi region are also helping to investigate the matter.
Bampton said there is a permanent task force which patrols the park on a daily basis.
“However, the park is also huge, and not every corner in the park can be reached by patrolling,” he added.
The value of the tusks has not yet been determined.
