In the last week we have been working as part of the Education Team visiting schools in the Samburu area. We visited five schools in five days in a whirlwind tour. The main part of our trip was to show Standard 8 students the second part of The Secret Life of Elephants but we also needed to assess the opinions of younger children on elephants before they saw the film. For this a trio of “undercover” students were required. Benjamin, Millicent and Amy were thrown out of the car a few minutes from the school (because the car had a STE logo that may have biased the pupils) and had to walk through the bush.
Each day posed different problems, many to do with the car, named Toffee. Poor Toffee, the family car, certainly struggled with the rocks that made up the road on the day that we travelled to Chumvyare, picking up two punctures on the way there.
We had great fun with our Education “family” but the week passed very quickly and both Toffee and the rest of the team had to head back to Nairobi.
In other news; we finally finished working on the Immobilisation records! The last one we entered was for Khadija’s treatment, this felt very poignant as she was poached on Tuesday. It made the poaching feel so much closer to home.
