Erode: A 20-year-old tusker was found dead in Sathyamangalam forest range in Erode district on Wednesday. Forest officials confirmed that the jumbo died of intestinal worms.

Sathyamangalam forest range officials spotted the carcass at Anaikkarai area in the forest range.

“The animal may have been suffering from intestinal worms and thus stopped eating,” said forest officials. The forest officials informed veterinarians in Sathyamangalam who in turn rushed to Anaikkarai area, where the carcass of the animal was found. They performed an autopsy on the spot and buried the carcass in the forest itself.

After autopsy, the forest officials cut the two tusks.

“We have kept them at the Sathyamangalam forest office,” said one forest official.
