Wild elephant kills one forest dept employee (Ganjam, India)

A temporary employee of the forest department was trampled to death and another was seriously injured by a wild elephant in Khallikote forest range in Ganjam district of Odisha on Thursday night.

Both were part of the elephant squad of the forest department and involved in driving away a herd of wild pachyderms from near a human habitat when the mishap occurred. The deceased has been identified as Bipra Pradhan (45) of Pari-Nuagaon village. The injured employee is Govind Pradhan (36) of Pani-Nuagaon.

Speaking to The Hindu , Berhampur Divisional Forest Officer Ashis Behera said the department would give Rs.3 lakh compensation to the family of the deceased.-
