Elephant-friendly honey

Our alternative livelihoods project aims to sustainably increase elephant-compatible livelihoods for the local people of Sagalla, with beekeeping and honey production being key components of this. These activities have been a focus for STE in Tsavo since the first Beehive Fences were constructed in 2009.

With the help of our very experienced beekeeping trainer, farmers and beekeepers from the region and across the continent receive proper beekeeping training on honey harvesting, processing, queen rearing, colony division and more. The results are evident – improved beekeeping knowledge and skills on honeybee management, maintenance of healthy bee colonies for better production and better post-harvest handling of hive products.

In 2025, the farmers harvested XXX tonnes of honey, with an estimated income of XXX to the community through the CBO’s.
