Elephant Scholarships

Save the Elephants works closely with local primary schools to identify highly motivated, talented students from pastoralist backgrounds whose families are unable to afford the cost of a high school education. Sponsoring these students offers a rare and life-changing opportunity – one that can transform not only an individual life, but also the community they return to.

The programme provides scholarship funding while supporting students throughout their educational journey. Alongside wider educational support, the scholarship program also fosters meaningful relationships between sponsors and students, helping to nurture both academic achievement and personal growth.

Since 2001, the program has supported close to 400  students. Many of the alumni have gone on to become leaders in their own communities, serving as the strongest voices for elephants and for conservation while strengthening local capacity across sectors including health, education, wildlife, tourism, and business.

Beyond financial support, the programme also offers sponsors the unique opportunity to become part of a student’s journey. Through letters and photographs, sponsors and students build lasting friendships and remain connected with one another and with Save the Elephants – relationships that often continue long after they leave the classroom.

With the continued support of individual donors and foundations, Save the Elephants is investing in the next generation of conservation champions and community leaders working to protect their region’s natural heritage.
