Derick Wanjala
Coexistence Project Officer
Derick joined Save the Elephants (STE) as an intern in 2019 and has since risen through the ranks to Coexistence Project Officer. His current role includes researching, deploying, and training farmers, community leaders, and conservation organisations on different human-elephant coexistence toolbox methods. He is the lead trainer of Save the Elephants’ Human-Elephant Coexistence (HEC) Trainer of Trainers (ToT) Programme, based on the STE’s HEC Toolbox.
Derick holds a Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Management and Conservation from the University of Eldoret, and recently earned a Distinction in his Master’s in Conservation Science from the Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology, University of Kent, UK. He is passionate about community conservation with a particular interest in working with communities facing human-elephant conflict.
