Monicah Mwaniki
Continental Tracking Research Officer
Monicah joined Save the Elephants in June 2023 as a Research intern. Following the successful completion of her internship, she was awarded a scholarship through Save the Elephants’ research fund, which enabled her to pursue a Master’s in Wildlife Management at Karatina University.
She has now returned to Save the Elephants as a Tracking Officer, bringing her extensive expertise in ecological research, with a particular focus on elephant behavior and movement ecology.
In her current role, Monicah is responsible for analyzing elephant GPS tracking data from STE and various partner sites across the African continent. Her primary responsibility is to conduct statistical analyses of elephant movement using R, ArcGIS, and Ecoscope, develop analytical techniques for movement analysis, and contribute to technical reports and scientific publications on elephant movement across different ecosystems.
Monicah is excited to be part of the STE team again and looks forward to contributing to a deeper understanding of elephant behavior and advancing elephant conservation efforts.
