Paul Kokiro joined Save the Elephants in 2018 after graduating Flight Training School in South Africa.
He is a licensed bush and drone pilot and is currently based in our Research Camp in Samburu National Reserve. His main roles are to conduct flight patrols in northern Kenya and to participate in elephant collaring operations where aerial support is crucial. Paul is also a certified Rotax 9 series engine technician after successfully completing training with Comet Aviation – Rotax Engines distributors in South Africa. He can now maintain the Savannah S aircraft that he flies up in the north.
Paul also enjoys using GIS to map and analyze the data he collects during flight patrols and remote sensing. His goal is to see and aid in developing technology that will improve our understanding of wildlife and their ecosystems so we can make informed decisions on protecting them.
